Autumn leaves at Keage and Nanzen-ji

Check out these amazing photos featuring beautiful fall foliage colors in Kyoto from KyotoFan

Last Friday the weather was really good and it was a great opportunity to enjoy the beautiful foliage colors that autumn brings to Kyoto. I went for a walk from the Keage area, where the incline is located, to the entrance of the Nanzen-ji Temple.

The incline at Keage is famous for its Sakura trees in spring, but you can see some maple trees in the top area. From there, you can take a trail to the east side of Nanzen-ji, where the famous “Sosui Brick Bridge” stands.

Just next to the Nanzen-ji Temple, you’ll find many other small temples with well cared gardens, such as the Tenjuan and the Konchi-in, holding special autumn exhibitions both at day and night time.

Gardens around the Sanmon Gate of the Nanzen-ji Temple.

This one is a Ginkgo tree, or a Icho in Japanese. Very common around Kyoto, giving a touch of gold color to the wonderful landscape of the city during fall.

Overall view of the Tenjuan garden, in front of the Sanmon Gate.
There is a path that follows the canal to the east side of Nanzen-ji. There you'll find the "Sosui Bridge". Water still runs on top of this elegant brick structure.

Nowadays this place is a wonderful spot for a short walk.

And off course, you'll find many maple trees in the Nanzen-ji Temple grounds

Many people know Keage for the amazing Sakura blossoms you can see in spring. But these Momiji are quite amazing too!
